Well if NHL 98 made me get into my artist mode, then NHL Hockey got me into wanting to create hockey games. I still remember to this day, playing this game for the first time at my friends house on his Sega Genesis. I had never heard of it before then, but when I saw that black cartridge with that wierd looking yellow plastic piece, I knew I was in for something special. From the moment I heard that awesome intro music to the time I heard that first goal siren go off, I knew this is what I wanted to do when I grew up. Finally, a hockey game that looked, sounded, and felt like real hockey. Sure it didn't have any of the real players, but it had the real teams and all the guys had the correct jersey #'s, so it wasn't hard to figure out who was who (hmmm wonder why they can't do that anymore?). I was up till 5am playing this game with my friend in a best of 7 Stanley Cup playoff mode where we took the Red Wings all the way to glory after beating the Pens in 6 games! |
